Principal Guest Conductor Leonard Slatkin conducts a program of vivid American music. Bernstein’s Oscar-nominated score for the film On the Waterfront is a classic example of music telling a story. Principal Clarinet Michael Rusinek performs Joan Tower’s Clarinet Concerto. The program closes with the music from Copland’s beloved ballet, Appalachian Spring, and includes variations on the familiar Shaker theme, “Simple Gifts.”
