Joan Tower’s Tambor, the Spanish word for drum, was commissioned and premiered by the PSO in 1998. Works by Paris-based contemporaries Chausson and Ravel will be performed by young Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti. Stravinsky’s The Firebird is a soaring and moving ballet based on a Russian folk tale about a magical and elusive bird. Arrive early to hear the Gypsy Strings perform in the lobby.
