Reni (Irene) Monteverde is excited to bring together a group of versatile and energetic musicians to engage the audience in what she can only describe as a collage of sound, mixing rhythms inspired by her mentors in the Latin-Salsa and Jazz traditions. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Jazz Studies at the University of Pittsburgh where her research focuses on the legendary Pittsburgh pianist, Erroll Garner (1921-1977). She had the privilege of accompanying the late Director of Jazz Studies, Geri Allen, on a two-week European tour with Enrico Rava in May of 2017. Monteverde holds an Artist’s Diploma from Fondazione Siena Jazz under the tutelage of Alessandro Giachero and a Bachelor of Arts in International Business and Marketing from Duquesne University. As a pianist and vocalist, she has recorded with Silvia Bolognesi, Richie Cole, Rebecca Covert, and The Blue Hots led by Ian Kane. In December 2017, her production at City of Asylum brought to life the intersection of Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte's work and early jazz dance of the Roaring 20s, collaborating with some of the best local talent in music and dance performance. She has recently composed music for Carnegie Stage productions (Pyschosis 4.48 and Eff.Ul.Gents) as well as Jumping Jack Theater’s sensory-friendly Light Princess. On Wednesdays, from 10am-noon, she co-hosts a radio show at the University of Pittsburgh’s station, WPTS, called Salsa, Con Ritmo alongside Noel Quintana.
