Georgia O’Keeffe: the Brightness of Light is a feature documentary film exploring the life and art of the most important American woman artist of the 20th century. O’Keeffe exploded on the New York art scene in the 1920s with her paintings of flowers, bones, and the beauty of nature. Nude photographs of O’Keeffe taken by her lover, Alfred Stieglitz, shocked the public and contributed to the perception that her paintings were sexually charged. In the 1970s, O’Keeffe, famously isolated in the New Mexico desert, emerged as an iconic role model for second wave feminists.

With unprecedented access to O’Keeffe’s groundbreaking body of work, and voiced with poignancy and power by Claire Danes as Georgia O’Keeffe and narrated by Hugh Dancy, this spellbinding film offers an in-depth, cinematic, and fresh portrait of the artist known as the "Mother of Modernism." From her early struggles and artistic awakenings to her rise as a feminist icon and cultural force, The Brightness of Light is a journey through love, loss, and the radical independence that shaped O’Keeffe’s art and her legend.

ABOUT THE AUDUBON SOCIETY OF WESTERN PA: We are an environmental education and conservation engagement organization that serves a seven-county region surrounding Pittsburgh. Through our programs, projects, and places we educate and inspire the people of southwestern Pennsylvania to be effective stewards of the natural world and to help create more bird-friendly communities. Our nature centers and reserves — Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, Buffalo Creek Nature Park, Succop Nature Park, and Todd Nature Reserve — offer more than 12 miles of trails through more than 500 tranquil acres that provide an oasis for individuals, families, and groups to explore and reconnect with nature at their own pace.
