Liang Li
After his debut in Europe at Teatro San Carlo in Napoli as Fasolt/Das Rheingold in 1998, Liang Li has become a highly acclaimed opera and concert singer with performances at all important international companies and festivals.
The 2014-2015 includes his debut at the Opéra de Paris Bastille with Don Giovanni/Commendatore (Alain Altinoglu), a new production of Rigoletto/Sparafucile (Silvain Cambreling) at the Staatstheater Stuttgart, concert performances of Der Fliegende Holländer/Daland in Caen and Luxembourg (Francois-Xavier Roth), as well as concerts with Stabat Mater (Dvořák) with the Bavarian Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Mariss Jansons in Munich and Lucerne. Li will return to the Palau de les Arts in Valencia with concerts of Stabat Mater (Rossini; Nicola Luisotti) as well as to the Palace of the Arts in Budapest with Stabata Mater (Rossini; Carlo Montanaro).
In 2013-2014, Li started with his successful role-debut as Hunding in a concert-version of Die Walküre with the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Ingo Metzmacher in Tokyo. This was followed by a new production of Macbeth/Banco at Aalto Theater Essen (David Hermann/Tomás Netopil), various concerts such as Messa di Requiem (Verdi) at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia and by a new production of Manon Lescaut/Geronte (Richard Eyre/Sir Simon Rattle) at the Festival of Baden-Baden with an additional concert version at the Philharmonie Berlin (Sir Simon Rattle). His recent debut at Carnegie Hall in New York with Mozart-Requiem and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (Manfred Honeck) was highly acclaimed by both public and press. Further engagements led the artist to the Deutsche Oper Berlin (Marke/Tristan and Isolde and Gurnemanz/Parsifal; Donnald Runnicles), the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden (La Juive/Brogny; Turandot/Timur), and with Verdi-Requiem to both, the Philharmonie Essen (Tomás Netopil) and to the Palau de les Arts (Carlo Rizzi).
Li has a close cooperation with the Opera Festival Beijing (NCPA), where he has had a huge success as Zaccaria in a new production of Nabucco aside Placido Domingo (Eugene Kohn) as well as with various concerts under the baton of Myung Whun-Chung. He is a regular guest at the Palau de les Arts (Il Trovatore/Ferrando and Tristan and Isolde/Marke; Zubin Mehta), the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf (Gurnemanz; Axel Kober), the Opera Cologne (La Forza del destino/Pater Guardian) and the Theater Basel (Rusalka/Vodnik, Eugen Onegin/Gremin). Guest engagements has been leading the artist among others as Arkel/Pélleas et Mélisande to the Wiener Festwochen and to the Edinburgh Festival, as König Marke/Tristan and Isolde to Montpellier, as Bartolo/Le Nozze di Figaro and Colline/La Bohème to the New National Theatre in Tokyo and as Sarastro/Die Zauberflöte to the Hallenstadion in Zurich.
Various concert-engagements have been leading the artist to distinguished festival and concert-stages, where he has been featuring his wide-spread repertoire. He has been invited e.g. to the Frankfurt Museumskonzerte (Schumann's Faust Szenen /Pater Profundus, Böser Geist) under the baton of Sebastian Weigle, to Taiwan with Mahler 8 (Shao-chia Lü), to Kopenhagen with Mozart's Requiem, Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln (Manfred Honeck), to the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Prague, to the Musikverein Wien and to the Mozarteum Salzburg (Beethoven IX, Stabat Mater/Dvořák). Since 2006-2007, the artist has been a member of the ensemble at the Staatsoper Stuttgart, where he sings all main roles of his Fach, which includes German as well as Italian and French repertoire.
Li was born in China and studied voice in Tianjin and in Peking. He won numerous prizes at international voice competitions, such as the International ARD Music Competition in Munich, Neue Stimmen of the Bertelsmann Stiftung and the International Opera-Competition in Shizuoka in Japan.
